SuKhush Project Live Flute Improvisation over Electronica DJ Sets
(6362MetaForce / Altar Recordings)
New York City
SuKhush features Rachel laying down live grooves & improvisation on the C Flute over DJ sets of funky world electronica (breakbeats, downtempo & psychedelic chill-out).
SuKhush developed its pineal-tingling blend of the organic & technological while Rachel and husband Vish (DJ Vishwaatmaaa) owned and operated their own nightclub in Bombay, India, during the early 2000s. SuKhush began as a solo project by Rachel, who trained classically on C flute before learning & performing jazz, experimental and world music. Rachel began DJ’ing while living in Thailand in the early 1990s, and there she discovered the power of electronica to boost the impact of the flute’s organic sound.
Joining the New York scene in 2005, SuKhush evolved into a partnership between husband and wife. Now Vish spins the tracks while Rachel improvises live, to create a light-filled interweaving of beats & grooves
SuKhush has remained a flagship project of 6362MetaForce, performing throughout North America, Europe & India. After a successful summer of festival dates in 2009, SuKhush joined Altar Recordings (Canada) and is planning for a jam-packed 2010.
SuKhush is a Sanskrit word meaning complete contentment – a sentiment beyond joy or happiness. SuKhush strives to generate that feeling through its performances and sets, laying down sounds ranging from ambient / chill-out / psychill to more upbeat breakbeats, dubstep, downtempo and global grooves.
